Hip-Hop Producer AraabMUZIK Shot, Stable Condition

Abraham Orellana, the hip-hop producer known as AraabMUZIK, has been shot and is hospitalized.

Orellana’s publicist said in a statement late Thursday that he is “currently alive and well” after being shot Wednesday night, noting he was in the wrong place at the wrong time while hanging out with friends. Police are investigating.

The statement said he was in his neighborhood when he was shot, but didn’t specify a city. Orellana’s hometown is Providence, R.I.

The producer’s manager, George Moore, a record label executive and producer known as DukeDaGod posted on Twitter a picture of Orellana in a hospital bed Thursday with the words: “Everyone wish my brother (at)araabmuzik a healthy & pleasant recovery!!!!”

The statement said Orellana appreciates fan support and “Araab is looking forward to a speedy recovery and returning to the stage as soon as he can.”

Kanye West’s forthcoming album officially has a release date. West is set to unveil his new project on June 18 — which also happens to be 10 days after his birthday.

In true Yeezy fashion, the Chicago MC tweeted “June Eighteen” early this morning, with no further explanation. The post sent his more than 9 million followers into a tailspin of speculation, until Rap Radar confirmed with Def Jam that the album will indeed drop next month.

West has been locked away in Paris letting his creative juices flow for the last several months. The 35-year-old has tapped the likes of Chief Keef for new music, but details around the album remain a mystery.

Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg spilled the beans on a listening session at Def Jam, which gave clues as to how the album sounds. “I just heard that Def Jam had a listening [session] last week and everyone at the label listened to the album and loved it,” he said on-air Monday (April 29). “I heard it’s dark but really good. I like when Kanye goes to that place.”

Rumor has it that Ye will debut the album’s first single when he performs on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, May 18.

We are curious to see if Kanye responds to Ray J for his recent single “I Hit it First” in reference to Kim K.

Lead singer for the Black Eyed Peas will.i.am has admitted infringing copyright with his new song, Let’s Go. The admission comes a week after he was accused of plagiarizing the beats of Rebound, originally recorded by DJs Arty and Mat Zo.

“LOL what?” exclaimed Arty on Twitter last week when he saw the track on YouTube. “They never cleared rights through Anjunabeats, who’s only one label, who ownes [sic] the rights for ‘Rebound’.”

Will.i.am’s explanation is that it was all a mistake. In an interview with KISS FM, he said that he’d originally recorded his own version of Rebound for use in the new song. “But in a year’s time, time’s gone by [and] we preferred writing over and using the [original] Rebound,” he said. “Something happened and the clearance… hopefully we resolved the issue.”

The rapper says he’s now contacted the rights owners and that a deal is being negotiated.

But this isn’t the first time that will.i.am has been accused of plagiarism. Other incidents include the allegations that he stole lyrics from funk singer George Clinton for the Black Eyed Peas single Shut Up, and from Chicago singer Phoenix Phenom for Boom Boom Pow.

And, earlier this year, British singer Tulisa sued him over the alleged theft of lyrics for a song called Scream and Shout, which will.i.am recorded with Britney Spears. The song – which sold about two million copies – was credited to Jef Martens, will.i.am himself and Jean Baptiste. Again, it was all a mistake, according to will.i.am, who says he was asked to record the track by producers Lazy Jay because they preferred him to Tulisa.

What must really stick in the craw for Mat Zo and Arty is that will.i.am had actually approached the pair about the track – and been turned down. “Arty and I are not bitter about this, more surprised,” Zo wrote on Facebook. “We knew Will.i.am was interested in this track, but we declined working with him at the time.”

What’s particularly interesting is that, despite admitting plagiarism, will.i.am appears to be continuing to justify his actions on the grounds that, well, he really liked the track. Indeed, he more or less implies that Arty and Zo should be grateful.

“I’m a fan of Arty. I think he’s great and the world needs to know about how talented those guys are,” he told KISS FM. “It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco, but hopefully it’s resolved, because I’m a fan of those guys to the point where I wrote to their instrumental.”

Arrogance aside, it’s the same argument used by many music fans to justify illegal downloads: that their devotion is in itself valuable to artists, and needn’t be accompanied by any hard cash. There’s certainly some truth in this, some of the time, in that surveys have found that people who regularly download music illegally tend to spend more on legitimate copies than those that don’t.

This, though, is to miss the point. Some artists, such as Oasis’s Liam Gallagher, have said they don’t have any objection to illegal downloads, and many are happy with sampling – as long as it’s properly acknowledged. In general, though, being a big fan is no justification at all. After all, shoplifters would get short shrift for arguing that they really like bananas and paid for some last week, so ought therefore to be allowed to help themselves today.

Sony Music saves the day! Tax evader (and erstwhile R&B superstar) Lauryn Hill has signed a new five-song, $1 million deal with Sony Music that will allow her to pay her tax debt and duck a prison sentence. See, Hill owes about $504,000 after neglecting to pay taxes on her $1.8 million in income between 2005 and 2007. (She explained her failure to pay with some long-winded griping about “pop culture cannibalism” via Tumblr, which is totally the sort of thing serious adults do, not petulant entertainers.) She’s got until May 6 to pay off the total and avoid prison time and reportedly hasn’t recorded anything yet. Atta girl.

Just a few days ago we reported rumors of Rihanna possibly being pregnant. With several cancelled shows and pics of her leaving her doctors office with what her manager claimed “flu like symptoms” word began to travel that Rihanna could possibly carrying Chris Brown’s child.

After last nights sold -out show in Atlanta’s Philips areana the Barbadian born beauty showed no signs of illness. Performing hits from her previous albums along with ”Mother Mary” and Phresh Out the Runway”from her upcoming CD ‘Unapologetic’, the crowd cheered as Rihanna gave what may have been her best live performance ever!

Is Rihanna pregnant? Rumors have the internet buzzing after the pop singer cancelled a fourth stop on her Diamonds tour earlier this week. She backed out of a Houston show on Monday, a Dallas concert on April 12, and two other scheduled performances back in March.

Last month her representatives told TMZ that she had a throat infection. It was the end of flu season, so the claim wasn’t too weird.

And another gossip site, Hollywood Life, published a photograph that they said showed Rihanna leaving a doctor’s office in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. She was making a gesture that could be construed as being protective of her stomach — admittedly odd for a throat infection.

When a young woman is sick to her stomach, then it’s a given that some people will guess that she’s pregnant. And, indeed, many of the Rihanna rumors running wild are claiming that she’s having a baby with on-again, off-again erstwhile girlfriend beater Chris Brown.

However, there’s another rumor swirling — that she partied a little too hard in Vegas and let down her fans further down the line. Rihanna has posted some perhaps ill-advised photos and comments to Instagram, and a lot of people have left some pretty peeved-off posts as a result. Much of the language used both to attack and defend Rihanna for the no-shows can’t really be described in a family publication.

However, if prgenant then congrats are in order. We just pray that Chris Brown is the father and not Drake!

Yahoo Sports is reporting, Jay Z is looking to sell of shares of his interest in the New Jersey Nets which will allow him to become a player agent.

Hova recently launched Roc Nation Sports, a co-partner with CAA. Players currently represented by Roc Nation Sports include Victor Cruz of the New York Giants and Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees.

Jay Z is looking to start representing NBA players, which by league rules states he has to sell  his minority shares.
